Adding and Editing Categories and Subcategories

Categories are groups for your products in your web store. The BV Commerce shopping cart software does not limit the number of categories you may have.

You can access your categories from either the Dashboard or under Catalog.

The category page has a drag and drop interface. You can use your mouse to change the order of your categories. Click on the Trash icon to delete a category.

Adding a New Category

Under the Categories/Pages page click the New button to create a new category.

Adding a Subcategory

You can also create categories within categories with BV Commerce. For instance, you could create a category for Kitchen Appliances and create a subcategory for Blenders. To create a subcategory, use the dropdown Site Root option to choose where you’d like the new category to appear. Choosing Site Root will create a totally new category. But clicking an existing category in the dropdown list will create a subcategory.

Editing Categories

First, give your category a Name and Description. You can also give your category a Page Title and Meta Description and include Meta Keywords and Search Keywords. This can be helpful for search engines.

Use the Sort Order dropdown list to choose how products in your category will be displayed. Choose from name, descending or ascending price or in order that the products are manually added to BV Commerce.

You can also choose Hide Category if you do not want this category appearing on your live store.

You can create a Page Name for your category. ????

Adding Images to Categories

You can add two images to your category, a store icon and a large banner image for your category that will be featured on its main page. This image will be the category showcase photo. To add these images, use the Browse button to locate the images on your computer and click View in Store when you’re done.

Remember to click Update or Save Changes when you’re done editing your category. If not, your changes will not be reflected on your live store.
